Proactive lifestyle changes can counter cardiovascular diseases

In the past few years, the rapid increase in heart attacks, obesity and diabetes is worrisome and terrifying. The modern world has introduced numerous ways to save our time, another thing making our already unhealthy lifestyles worse. In order to follow our busy schedules, we usually prefer processed foods over a healthy home-cooked meal. There is no denying that these processed foods save five to ten minutes of our day, but end up contributing in higher cholesterol levels. Running in the daily grind; competition, money and success is the central goal of every person in the 21st century. Thus, the increment in work hours and an unhealthy work-life balance leaves you too exhausted to exercise or look after yourself. Similarly, staying up late and not getting enough sleep can also mess up with your metabolism, causing you to feel hungrier.

Heart is the most vital organ that’s keeping us alive, so it should be our first and foremost priority to treat it like the precious asset it is. Approximately a million men and women per year die due to various heart diseases. These diseases are caused when fat, cholesterol and other substances are increased in the body. The plaque builds up, which leads to blocking the blood flow to the heart chambers causing a cardiac arrest. Although, the statistics may be paralyzing but there are still a lot of ways to prevent yourself from getting these cardiovascular diseases.

It can be extremely difficult to break a lot of bad habits, that’s exactly why Tabba Heart Institute conducted an event “Dil Hai Tau Jaan aur Jahan Hai” to talk about the changes we can bring in our lifestyles that can protect us from cardiovascular diseases.

The main points raised on how to adopt a healthy lifestyles revolved around 4 points;

1- A Healthy diet

Processed foods have been increasing the risk of strokes and cardiac deaths. Therefore, the addition of fruits and vegetables in your diet can help. Eating foods with less saturated fats and high fiber can help control cholesterol levels. To control diabetes, limit your sugar intake.

2- Maintain Healthy Weight

Obesity is also a great factor that causes heart diseases. Visit a doctor once in two weeks to get your BMI checked.

3- Physical activity

This covers most of how you’re supposed to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Physical activity helps you maintain healthy weight whilst lowering your blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar levels. Adults should exercise for approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes in a week to remain active and stay in shape.

4- Say No to Smoking

Smoking increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases so if you do smoke, quit before it’s too late.

Every individual should follow these simple steps to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to have a healthy heart.
