13,000 cops on duty, roads sealed for Karachi’s first PSL match of the season

Karachi is gearing up for its first PSL 4 match of the year at the National Stadium. The showdown between Islamabad United and the Lahore Qalandars will begin today (Saturday) at 7pm.

Over 13,000 policemen are on duty for the security of the match and the subsequent seven matches that will be held in the port city. The Rangers are handling security within the National Stadium.

“There are 7,720 policemen who have been assigned duty in the east zone and 2,260 others will be on guard in the south zone,” Sindh IG Kaleem Imam had said during a February 27 meeting on PSL security. “The Special Security Unit’s 565 personnel and 1,780 traffic policemen will perform their duties as well.”

There are also 788 personnel of the Special Branch who will be deployed for security of the matches, he said, adding that a total of 13,112 officers and jawans have been assigned duties for the security of PSL matches.

A traffic plan has also been issued for the matches.
