Naiza Khan to be the first Pakistani artist to showcase at Venice Biennale!

Artist Naiza Khan will be representing Pakistan in its first-ever participation at the Venice Biennale this year, which is scheduled to take place between May 11 and November 24.

Naiza Khan is a Karachi and London based artist, who trained in the United Kingdom. Her work of arts includes paintings, drawings, and mixed-media pieces.

Her work is based on the examination of how specific places in Pakistan are evolving, within the context of wider issues affecting the global south.

As being reported, her work Manora Field Notes will be put on exhibition at the Biennale. Which is based on the exploration of contemporary life on Manora Island in Karachi. It will be curated by Zahra Khan.

While Speaking about her artwork Naiza told a local publication  that her exhibition is a result of years of exploration and research and the work can be situated “within a larger conversation that links Venice to the Persian-Indian-Arab peninsulas through histories of empire and maritime trade.”

Organized by the Foundation Art Divvy, the pavilion at the Venice Biennale is supported by the Pakistan National Council of the Arts.

Naiza Khan’s work has been widely exhibited internationally. Her work was displayed at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in 2016, the Colombo Art Biennale also in 2016 and also at the Shanghai Biennale in 2012.
