England’s first ever cricket world cup win

Neither side deserved to lose but after defeating New Zealand in a nail biting experience England made world cup history on Sunday in the final match viewed by millions across the globe, and became first-time champions in the tournament.

The England vs New Zealand World Cup final went into the super over after the Match was tied with England bowled out for 241 in 50 overs. Ben Stokes played a historic inning getting England from 71 to 241. His vital knock against New Zealand carried England to victory.

The turning point of the match was when England reached the exact target posted by New Zealand at the very last ball. The winning team required 2 runs from the last ball but ended up scoring only one, due to which the two sides tied.

In the super over eliminator round that followed, England set a 16-run target for New Zealand which the Kiwis matched evenly, with the outcome then decided by superior boundary count.

England are in the title match for the fourth time, and the first since 1992, while this was the second time the Black Caps have reached the World Cup final.

After a well deserved win against India in the semi final New Zealand made it to the final, England secured their place in the final after defeating defending champions Australia in the second semi-final at lords.

This win has completed the cricket double for England, with the women’s team winning the World Cup in 2017.
