The Legend: Hashim Amla retires from International Cricket

Proteas star batsman, Hashim Amla on Thursday officially announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket however,  will be playing domestic matches.

Hashim Amla’s retirement is a great loss for the South African team. Recently in Worldup 2019, they failed to reach semi-finals and won only 2 matches out of 9 where Hashim Amla  scored 2 half-centuries .

He played 124 test matches making 9282 runs with an average of almost 47. His remarkable stats of 181 ODI matches contains 8113 runs, average of almost 50.

For an extended period of time, Hashim Amla ranked among the best batsmen in ODI format, including fastest 2000 to 7000 runs and also, 27 centuries which is the most by any South African batsman.

“It is always sad to bid farewell to one of the true legends of the game,” Cricket South Africa (CSA) Chief Executive Thabang Moroe.

Amla said “I learned many lessons during this incredible ride”

He was named SA Cricketer of the Year in 2010 and again in 2013. As he smashed 196 against Australia at Perth the same year, resulted him as the Man of the Match award which was an important contribution to the team as it was said to be match-winning performance. This lead him to set No.1 spot in the world of Test cricket.
