Is Nutella healthy? Or is it worse than a chocolate bar?

Nutella is a chocolate-hazelnut spread and a popular healthy breakfast option for people around the world. While Nutella is definitely a popular choice, is it healthy too?

Yes, Nutella is bad for your health. Considering the fact that people buy a Nutella every 2.5 seconds it is definitely among the bestselling spreads in the world. However, that does not mean it is good for your health.

A jar of Nutella only contains five ingredients: cocoa, palm oil, hazelnuts, sugar, and skimmed milk powder. Advertisers play up the fact that it’s a delicious hazelnut spread with no artificial colours or preservatives so you feel good about eating it all day every day.

Although the marketing team behind Nutella has been peddling the chocolatey, hazelnut-packed spread as being part of a well-balanced breakfast, we all have to remember that these folks are, in fact, part of a marketing team.

And that means they’ve been lying through their chocolate-covered teeth. As it turns out, there are a few ingredients in Nutella that contributed to a lawsuit against its maker, Ferrero. They’re far from healthy.

While we agree that the creamy, chocolaty, hazelnut taste of Nutella is delicious all by itself, maybe just cut back on the portion size a little.
