Ayesha Omar reveals why she didn’t come forward with her #MeToo story

With the recent statement that we received from Ayesha Omar on her #MeToo story, the actress finally revealed the reason behind NOT confronting the scenario and making it a public debate.  She has however stated that time shouldn’t wane the credibility of a sexual harassment victim’s story. Further stating that with all the stigma surrounding harassment and the trauma that follows it, it is difficult to open up about the issue.

In a recent interview, Ayesha Omar spoke about how she understands and how it feels having gone through it but she’s not brave enough to talk about it. Making her relate to the struggle of taking time to come forth.

“I have been through harassment in my career and life, so I understand how it feels. I don’t have the courage to talk about it yet, maybe someday I will. But I can totally relate with everyone who has been through it.”

The actress emphasized the need to base the credibility of a victim’s story based on how long it took them to talk about it.

“There is no particular time for one to open up about it, it can take one 20 years, another only one, while for some it takes two minutes. People can come out whenever,”

She carried on by further stating that:

“This movement is extremely important because it takes a lot for the people who’ve been victims to open up about their experiences. There are so many men and women in our own industry who have been through it.”

Ayesha then explained how providing excessive projection to victims that come forth empowers other victims to come out with their stories.

“We need more people to come out, even if only the renowned are talked about. The lack of projection for some some, should not be considered as discriminatory towards anyone else’s struggles. It should simply be taken as a means to empower those without mediums by channeling them through those with the means.”
