American actor Jada Pinkett Smith has Sufi music on her playlist these days and she’s loving a song by two of Pakistan’s top vocalists.
The dynamic duo collaborated for Coke Studio season 7 in 2014 and this Sufi song went on to become one of the biggest hits the program has produced. Earlier this year, Sufi poetess and singer Abida Parveen collaborated with renowned British singer and songwriter Sami Yusuf for a devotional track titled Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum which was a mix of Arabic and Urdu. The song garnered positive feedback.
In a post on her Instagram, Smith was all praises for our very own Sufi legend Abida Parveen and Qawwal maestro Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

As soon as Jada shared the clip, providing a glimpse at the most celebrated Sufi Pakistani singers, many people who are not familiar with the Sufi kalaam, Amir Khusrow’s poetry and Urdu language itself came forward in praising the two Sufi music icons.
