Pakistani-born scientist making country proud!

Pakistani-born molecular biologist ‘Asifa Akhtar’ has won big at Germany’s Research Foundation.
Asifa Akhtar is a biologist who has made significant contributions to the field of chromosome regulation.
She is Senior Group Leader and Director of the Department of Chromatin Regulation at the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics. Akhtar was awarded EMBO membership in 2013.
Asifa Akhtar was born on February 19, 1971 in Karachi, Pakistan.
Dr Akhtar is being awarded for her groundbreaking cell-biological work on the mechanisms of epigenetic gene regulation. The award includes €2.5 million in prize money.

She is among 10 scientists to have been selected for this important prize for 2021.
