Sarcasm can be fun, but more often it’s mean-spirited and hurtful. It’s hard to define, but you know it when you hear it. That’s because sarcasm, which is used to convey the opposite of the literal words spoken, is primarily communicated by a person’s tone of voice. Some jokes can even be outright hurtful.

Ways to deal with sarcasm could be, Respond to the content, not the tone, as if you’ve taken the sarcastic comment literally. Ignore the sarcastic person and recognize that people who are mean to others are often miserable themselves. Label their feelings and follow up with sincere questions and give some free advice by telling them how their sarcasm makes you feel.

Imagine that all of your words are being written down. This might sound strange, but it can help you closely analyze what you say and identify your sarcastic comments.
