Around the Globe

West? No, double standards.

Sociology teaches us to believe in the exchange of ideas & cultures. We as a society also have adopted latest trends take a mere example of family. From living in an extended family to getting into a nuclear family. We have adopted ideas & values of liberalism, democratisation, secularism etc and have benefitted greatly from it.

However, one thing we should notice is how we all end up looking at a ‘fatherly figure.’ The liberals in our society look up to the approval of west, the conservatives seek the approval of Arabs/ Middle East. One thing we all are majorly concerned about is not being ‘good enough.’ And we need to realise that for West we will never be enough or good enough. So why bother? They want us to dress like them, take up their values, mingle & adopt their culture, take up their level of education, speak like them, think like them and when we try and do all those stated above even then ‘we are not good enough.’ It’s as if the ‘East will never be good enough.’ Because in their minds ‘East’ was and will always be inferior. One’s they can conquer and have as puppets.

All the evidence is present in their movies, shows, documentaries where they have listed the ‘East’ negative. Anything they do, all the developments, education, progress they make, the efforts made to flourish their society all goes in vain when the West simply labels us as ‘incompetent.’ But is that really so? That’s a debate for another time. Take examples of countries such as Dubai, Turkey, China not only are they politically strong but also progressive societies. Why not for once see their enlightened sides? Why only show Middle East in movies with herd of sheep’s, camps & camels? Have a look at Dubai & then compare it to New York- you’d want to stay in former. The lifestyle, the purchasing power, education etc is all very strong in Dubai.

Shouldn’t West establish high moral grounds and basis to judge? It’s funny how West acts as shady characters from the movies, staying beyond the shadows and blaming East so easily. They all know what is going on in Yemen, Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan etc but where’s the UN now? When it comes to issues like Kashmir they turn their eyes away & block their ears but when God Forbid issues like 9/11 take place they lose their minds & disrupt the entire international order. Resources are being stolen from Balochistan, Africa, Saudi Arabia & thousands of minorities are killed each year so where is the West, their values and law?

Personally, the West should take a break and do some soul searching, they should revisit their bylaws, re-read their books and leave rest of the world ‘alone’ and with that the world will definitely become a better place.
