The Ugly Truth of Our Society

The ugliest reality of our society is none other than violence, and if we look in to a more explicit version, it is known as ‘Domestic Violence’. Domestic Violence is the abuse that occurs in relationships where an individual impact its power on the other person. Domestic Violence does not only include physical abuse but it also greatly impacts emotional and mental health. Mainly women of Pakistani society are the targets of domestic violence. The root cause of domestic violence is illiteracy, with that, financial crisis and lack of awareness are also the major reasons which are greatly present in our society; lastly, hegemonic and toxic masculinity is also a reason that provokes our men to practice their masculine power negatively and aggressively. According to the current statistics of Pakistan’s domestic violence approximately 70% to 90% of women are victim of this dirty abuse. The most heart wrenching and brutal case that will always be remembered by the people of Pakistan was of Noor. Besides Noor, there are multiple incidents that ought to desire justice but due to Pakistan’s fragile justice system they tend to get unfair justice. However, there are countless cases that don’t even get reported, which is a serious negligence and violation of human rights.

The bitter reality that makes this issue more sorrowful is that domestic violence is worse than other violences as this violence receives encouragement from our society and no one in the society raise their voices. The peak of this sad reality is that after experiencing domestic violence, women themselves don’t support it and always advices to let go. Victim blaming is another very common issue when it comes to domestic violence, it is a manipulative tactic that is often exercised by the abusers and sadly most of the time they achieve to proof the victim wrong.  Such acts should never be let go and should be nip in the bud. But just recently it is observed that there is a slight incline and progress regarding this issue because of constant women empowerment, it now taken seriously but there is still more to go to actually make our society awake and realize the ugly truth of our society.
