Saviour Syndrome? – Spot the signs.

Have you ever come across someone who only does good only because it helps them feel better? Someone who makes it their core duty to go out of the way sorting things just because it benefits them or they feel it’s their sole responsibility to resolve it?

That my friends is called the Saviour Syndrome and here’s how you can identify it.

  1. Making excessive personal sacrifices such as time, money, health, emotional well being.
  2. Believing helping others is your only purpose.
  3. Spending extra energy on irrelevant things only leading to a burnout.
  4. Trying to change people.
  5. Being attracted to vulnerability.

These are some signs that directly impact you and you end up with emotional baggage, disrupted relationships, sense of failure, unwanted mood related disorders.

There are many ways you can avoid and resolve this. Start contemplating about things that actually need your attention. The burden of the world is not your responsibility. It doesn’t harm being a good, kind hearted person but only enough so that people don’t use you.

Speak to a therapist and surround yourself with people that evoke positive emotions rather than those pressuring you to solve their issues.

Until next time.
