This global pandemic has created a negative effect on the mental health of individuals; the ongoing situation has not only lead to people worrying about their health and safety but also how to deal with the emotional and mental stress this pandemic is making them go through.
Everyone has their own ways of dealing with different situations, for me my books are my best friend. It takes your mind off various things; you are distracted from the bitter reality. It is seen as a coping mechanism for people with mental disorders, such as depression and anxiety. Well, hands down, reading has helped me with my anxiety. Also not to forget, you get to learn and see the world in a much different and positive way, well of course that also depends on what genre of books do you opt for.
Here are my personal favorite (highly recommend) books which helped me look at things in a much better and a positive approach. I hope it works for you also.
- Reclaim Your Heart –Yasmin Mogahed
If you’re looking for something spiritual, this book is a must read, it touches your soul and for self help purpose. The author mentions ‘ Leaving is hard, losing is harder,’ every human being has different pain threshold, you can’t compare your problems to others, some might deal with it calmly whereas others might react much more than expected or required, similarly, for some leaving can be equally hard as losing or vice versa.
- Peer-e-Kamil-Umera Ahmed
This is a Urdu based novel written by one of the most well known author, it depicts the life of two unhappy souls, (polar opposites) struggling with their spiritual awakening, with the help of few life turning events, lead them to become better individuals for each other and for themselves.
One of my most famous quotes from this book is
“What is next to ecstasy?
Pain
What is next to Pain?
Nothingness.”
- It ends with US- Colleen Hoover
Who doesn’t Rom- Coms and non-fiction nowadays? I am a big fan, the novel ‘It Ends With Us’ is about a hardworking and determined girl who hasn’t had life easy, making things worse, she falls in love with a stubborn and arrogant man who mistreats and loves her at the same time, sometimes people who loves you the most, hurts you the most and there’s no going back.
I absolutely loved reading these books, phenomenal authors, brilliant storyline, amazing characters, what more could you possibly ask for? I hope you like it as much as I do!
