How an art exhibition shows powerful reproductive rights statements!

A New York art exhibit is designed to fight back against the stigma surrounding abortions while raising money for reproductive rights.

It features pieces from artists including Cindy Sherman, Barbara Kruger, and Nan Goldin that depict the history, victories, and struggles surrounding women’s health.

Some works capture women protesters standing up for their rights, while others allude to the Supreme Court, whose work is linked to the future of reproductive rights in the U.S., including Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg Brett and Kavanaugh, Now This reported.

The show comes at a vulnerable time for reproductive rights in the U.S. More than 50 laws restricting women’s reproductive rights were passed in 2019, while the landmark ruling Roe v. Wade is at the mercy of a Supreme Court with a conservative majority.

According to Now This, the exhibit’s organizers will contribute proceeds to super PAC Downtown for Democracy, which will divide and distribute the funds to voter education and advocacy and to Planned Parenthood PAC efforts in the upcoming 2020 elections.

The first part of the exhibition will run through January 18 at the Galerie Eva Presenhuber, and the second part will be displayed between January 21 and February 1 at Arsenal Contemporary.
