8th March came around, bringing with it the infamous Aurat March. Men, women & children alike marching for the rights of women.
With passion flowing through their veins, their emotions on a high, strongly opposed, these people bore slogans and banners in support.
To this, many responded with praise, others with criticism. Everyone had an opinion about the way these women were protesting. Some claimed that these women are against Islamic values, others quoted the Holy Quran to prove that these women are fighting for their God-given rights.
Despite the stark contrast in opinions on both sides, we saw many people take to social media, speaking up against the aggression that came forward with regards to this subject, and offered doable, neutral solutions that could help diffuse the tension.
Many people believe that the real issues faced by women in our society are getting sidelined by the hype that surrounds these slogans that target smaller issues as compared to child marriage, divorce and marital rights, harassment, child abuse, mental and physical abuse, discrimination and honour killing among many others.
Some had counter arguments for all the religious reasoning presented by religious extremists for why Aurat March should be banned or for how its Haraam, providing a list of rights that Islam has granted to women but are not given to them in our society.
With such extreme opposing arguments causing so much friction between the two schools of thought, maybe these neutral solutions are something that we should shed some more light on and perhaps we could find a middle ground.
