Bahauddin Zakariya University suspends professor for harassment

Bahauddin Zakariya University on Saturday suspended Assistant Professor Nauman Wasif after declaring him guilty of harassment.

In its meeting, the syndicate reviewed report of harassment committee and suspended the teacher who was found guilty of immoral activities.

It was decided to initiate strict action against the teacher.

A committee in line with Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act was constituted on the matter.

The members of the committee were Professor Dr Muhammad Shafqatullah, Professor Dr Masood Akhtar and Professor Dr Ghazala Yasmeen.

The syndicate instructed the committee to work on a daily basis and present the complete report in this regard.

The syndicate meeting was chaired by Vice Chancellor BZU Dr Tariq Mehmood Ansari and attended by Justice Muhammad Shehram Chaudhary a Lahore High Court judge, Registrar Sohaib Khan, Prof Dr Aashique Khan Durrani, MPA Muhammad Nadeem Qureshi, Additional Secretary government of Punjab Zeeshan Javed, Prof Dr Maimoona, Shah Sawar, Prof Dr Imran Chaudhary and lecturer Amna Naqvi.

The case:

The agriculture department teacher was previously kidnapped by the varsity students for allegedly teasing girls, however, he was released after the administration’s intervention, media reports said.

The BZU administration had said Nauman went missing and his family reportedly came to know that six car riders kidnapped him when he was returning home and shifted him to an undisclosed location.

The agriculture department students said that the lecturer was allegedly involved in teasing the department girls. A few members of a student union had warned him against the activity but the lecturer continued teasing the girls, they claimed.

Meanwhile, the police spokesperson had said that five kidnappers abducted Nauman and they were managing to escape when the police intercepted the car and safely recovered him.

Media reports had also claimed that Nauman was blackmailed for money by the varsity students due to his videos that had circulated across the campus.
