Central jail Peshawar gets an open air gym for prisoners

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Department of Sports, Tourism, Culture, Archaeology, and Youth have installed open-air gym equipment at Central Jail Peshawar for the inmates.

The gym is aimed to improve the prisoners’ wellbeing and is a positive change.

Abid Majeed, Secretary Relief, Rehabilitation, and Settlement Department at the Government of Khyber- Pakhtunkhwa shared the images of the open-air gym via a tweet.

 

KPK government has previously mentioned that they wanted to provide safe custody, control, food, education, care, and correction to the prisoners to improve the condition of the prisons and the standard of living of the prisoners.

Some positive steps have been taken by the KP Prisons department in ensuring their mission, such as providing basic healthcare to inmates by installing hospitals and dispensaries at the facility. As per the department’s website,

Facilities of the ambulance are available in all central prisons. The specialist doctors also visit the jail hospital once in a week for the provision of specialized treatment to inmates. Blood screening tests for Hepatitis B and C of prisoners in all the jails/lockups is being carried out.
