Alia Bhatt’s film Darlings released on Netflix on August 5. The dark comedy also stars Vijay Varma, Shefali Shah and Roshan Mathew, and is backed by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment.
I’m not sure if I regret watching it or I it was actually a must watch as it left a never ending impact on me for sure. DARLINGS is the story of a woman trapped in a violent marriage and tried to make it work till the end. Until one day her husband’s violent behavior ends up in losing their unborn child. This is when the mother in her wakes up and takes revenge and not suffer anymore. She asks the doctor for sleeping pills as she complains of sleeplessness. She lies about it and gives the pills to Hamza, without his knowledge. Once he goes to sleep, she ties him and her mother becomes her partner-in-crime although she fails to understand what her daughter is planning to do with Hamza. What happens next forms the rest of the film
Alia Bhatt delivers yet another award-winning performance. She gets into the skin of her character beautifully and looks absolutely convincing as the devoted wife who has simple dreams for the future. Her badass transformation is also portrayed flawlessly by the actor.
