Experts warn of new Omicron strain

The Pandemic has hit the entire world really hard, our entire lives have changed we live in a world as never imagined before. It has robbed a lot of families of their loved ones. We did get a breath of fresh air when the vaccines came in but seems like the pandemic is not ready to leave us anytime soon.

Omicron subvariant BA.2 is found to have quickly overtaken the original Omicron in South Africa and other countries and has even caused a second Omicron surge in Denmark. Although still classified as omicron, the BA.2 strain differs from the current BA.1 strain and the previous delta strain, as it is more contagious and can spread about 30% more easily.

The highly infectious omicron variant has flushed out the delta strain across the U.S., but the ascendance of the purportedly milder form of Covid-19 has done nothing so far to ease the burden on stretched hospitals. Studies claim that similar to BA.1, BA.2 subvariant of Omicron appears to largely escape the immunity induced by Covid-19 vaccines. The vaccine-induced humoral immunity fails to function against BA.2 like BA.1.

However, the WHO said while BA.2 is more transmissible than BA.1, the subvariant is not more severe.
