Police said on Thursday that the DNA tests did not prove rape of 10-year-old girl Farishta, who was allegedly raped and murdered in Islamabad.
Earlier, the body of Farishta was discovered from a forest in the federal capital’s Shahzad Town area.
According to police, an attempt was made to rape the girl and upon resistance the suspect gravely wounded her with knife.
The girl died due to excessive bleeding, said police, adding that it has shortlisted two suspects and will bring them forth in 24 to 36 hours.
Farishta’s family, which belongs to Mohmand Agency, said they had tried to file a missing person report to police on May 15 after she had left her home in the evening.
The family, however, claimed it took police till May 19 to register a first information report (FIR) and, even then, a proper search was not initiated. The minor girl’s body was later discovered by locals who subsequently informed the police.
Her body was later shifted to the Poly Clinic for post-mortem
An FIR was then lodged against the station house officer (SHO) Shahzad Town and other policemen for negligence in the case.
The FIR registered by Farishta’s father, Ghulam Nabi, states the family visited the police station for the registration of a missing complaint. However, the SHO instead of looking for the girl alleged that she had run away with someone.
