High end brands such as LV, Prada, Christian Dior, Gucci etc are called out every once in a while for copying & replicating designs of small scale brands or artwork of other people. And simultaneously MK (Michael Kors) is called out multiple times for replicating designs of high end brands. The masses criticise them and look down upon such brands on performing unethical activities of that sort.
What is absolutely bizarre is the fact that brands often end up claiming that they have not copied the design rather ‘modified’ it.
The picture above was taken from FHS – one of the most famous and local brands of leather goods in Pakistan which copied the logo of Tory Burch, a worldwide famous luxury lifestyle brand.
However, lately the brand has introduced a collection of egregious Gucci, Tory Burch and Ferragamo copies which clearly dint go unnoticed.
Stealing the work of other designers and passing it off as their own is not only unethical but highly inappropriate and misleading. And considering FHS – which is one of the local brands of Pakistan should not replicate designs let alone logo’s. Taking inspiration is one thing but outright copying it is another.
Let’s hope our local brands know the ethics, come up with more creative ideas. Our nation is full of young talent and artists, hiring them would surely produce designs and artwork on a whole new level which would definitely stir debate on an international level otherwise we too are just another ‘copycats’ on the list.
