Flood alert issued after India releases water in Sutlej River

India’s aggression towards Pakistan does not seem to calm down as they released at least two lakh cusecs water into the River Sutlej without prior information. Flooding alert has been issued after India released water from its barrages and dams into the River Sutlej, earlier today.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) told local news channel that 50,000 to 200,000 cusecs water from Indian Punjab will enter Ganda Singh Wala, a border village near Kasur, during next 12 to 24 hours.

The National Disaster Management Authority issued a flood warning after which the administration of Kasur and other districts, located on the banks of the Sutlej, were advised to take necessary measures.

The Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar has called an emergency meeting in Lahore to discuss the situation. According to the spokesperson of CM secretariat, Buzdar will personally monitor relief activities in case of possible flooding. Authorities also asked people living at the riverbank to evacuate.

Punjab Minister for Population Welfare Muhammad Hashim Dogar along with Commissioner Lahore Division Muhammad Asif Bilal Lodhi also visited the flood-prone areas of district Kasur today.
