Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former Prime Minister and leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has tested positive for COVID-19.
Marriyum Aurangzeb, PMLN’s central spokesperson, has confirmed the news saying that “Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s coronavirus test has come out positive, he has quarantined himself within his home,”.
The spokesperson said the former premier attended several press conferences in the past few days.
PMLN president Shahbaz Sharif also expressed sorrow and deep concerns at the news and said: “Abbasi is an asset, we hope he will recover soon.”
The cases of coronavirus in Pakistan have surpassed 100,000 mark as 103,671 individuals have been affected by the lethal infection. Pakistan has confirmed 65 more deaths in one day and the nationwide tally of fatalities has surge to 2,067.
National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) latest figures confirmed that 4,728 persons have tested positive for coronavirus in 24 hours.
Pakistan has so far conducted 705,833 COVID-19 tests and 22,650 in past 24 hours. 34,355 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas many are in critical condition.
