“Today, justice has been done after seven years,” the victim’s mother told reporters outside the prison. “I salute the Indian judiciary and thank God for hearing our prayers…my daughter’s soul can now rest in peace.”
Four men sentenced for the 2012 rape and murder of a young woman aboard a bus in New Delhi -in what became known as the Nirbhaya case – were hanged by India on Friday. Outrage over her death led to India passing tough new laws against sexual violence, including the death penalty for rape in some cases.
Justice took long to hang the culprits to death, the case where the world was shocked and shamed India over its dreadful record for crimes against women.
The prison officials said that the men were executed at Tihar jail.
The crowd outside the jail was uncontrollable, to which hundreds of police were deployed outside the jail to control the crowd.
