German team to participate in first climb after virus restrictions eased

Did you know Pakistan has 14 worlds tallest mountains that rise more than 8,000 meters above sea level and are all found near Himalayan and Karakoram mountains? Not only this there are more than 100 peaks above 7,000 meters and as many above 6,000 meters!

This summer a team from Germany, led by the renowned German climber Felix Berg, is taking up the expedition of the 6,500-meter high peak in Shimshal Valley of Gilgit -Baltistan which is hitherto unclimbed. We are also expecting some more European teams to arrive in the next few days.

Every year climbers and trekkers from around the world visit Pakistan to climb these dangerous peaks. These activities have created profitable jobs for locals in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). However, this year the pandemic had brought mountaineering to a halt and many locals in GB are suffering badly.
