How to build a daily Skincare routine

Having a proper skincare routine seems easy but maintaining that is tough. The right skincare routine starts with knowing your skin type.  Skincare products that are one size fit all rarely work, and it’s because your skin needs tailored products and solutions based on your skin type. Every skin needs different types of skincare.  the main goal in our skincare routine comes down to a few simple things.  Keeping our skin looking and feeling its best, preventing further damage to our skin, help repair past superficial damage to our skin, and minimizing irritation to the skin.

Here are some steps that we need to follow to build a good skincare routine.

Cleansing

Cleansing is the first step of any good skincare routine. The type of cleanser you use matters more than you think it does — gentle face washes are the way to go, particularly if you plan on using more active ingredients down the line. Too many people cleanse too much or too often or with a cleanser that’s too harsh, and it will actually break down your skin barrier. A common benefit of facial cleansing is removing oil, dirt, and other unwanted elements on our faces.  In addition, cleansing helps boost hydration.  Regular facial cleansing is an important factor in maintaining proper hydration on the face.

Toner

A skin toner’s effectiveness can vary from product to product, but they generally enhance the skin’s surface by unclogging pores, helping add essential ingredients, hydrating the skin, and providing additional cleansing. A toner should be applied after your facial cleanse. Cleanse your face first to remove any unwanted elements or makeup.  Rinse well, then dry your face with a clean towel. Finally, apply a toner.

Serums

A serum is known for its ability to penetrate deeper into the skin layers. Adding to the skincare routine the ability to deliver powerful ingredients directly to the skin. This makes serum a great tool for treating specific skin concerns. Look at the product description for instructions as they can vary from product to product. Typically serums are applied after toners, just before a moisturizer or SPF.

Moisturizer

The main purpose of a moisturizer is to hydrate the skin and leave your skin feeling soft to the touch.  Moisturizers can sometimes have an SPF, which helps protect them from the sun. A moisturizer can be applied in the morning or night. A moisturizer application should be applied as the last step before makeup is applied. Apply the moisturizer just after the serum, before makeup application.

Eye cream

Eye creams fall into the “treat” category. Dab on eye cream using your ring finger (your weakest finger) so you don’t unintentionally cause damage to your eye area. Eye creams can help moisturize, hydrate, brighten, firm, and tighten, and provided needed antioxidants to the eye area.  If you have fine lines, wrinkles, or puffiness under your eyes, it may be a good idea to use an eye cream.

Sunscreen

This is the most important step in your skincare routine. “If you don’t wear sunscreen it’s like you might as well not do any of those other steps, here are the few reasons why everyone should use sunscreen

  • It helps prevent Fine lines and wrinkles
  • It helps prevent skin discoloration
  • Skin cancer is rising and sunscreen has been proven to decrease the development of skin cancer
