I myself being a girl with a dark complexion faced Color shaming my entire life. From childhood to adulthood it was always about the complexion. We often hear if you have a dark complexion you should not wear lights Colors or apply certain shades of makeup specifically lipsticks.
Color shaming is more common in our desi culture than any other culture. I personally feel dark complexion has a unique glow.
Colorism is the practice of favoring lighter skin over darker skin. The preference for lighter skin can be seen within any racial or ethnic background. Many people not only see color but they also use it as a way to judge or determine someone’s character.
