Israel Health Minister Yaakov Litzman and his wife tested positive for the novel coronavirus, overnight Wednesday.
In a statement, the Health Ministry said the 71-year-old minister and his wife are feeling well, receiving medical care and will remain in isolation.
Litzman, the most senior Israeli official will continue to carry out his duties from his home while being in quarantine, according to the health ministry.
With this latest development, top officials including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Mossad chief, Health Ministry director and National Security Council adviser required to enter isolation after having been in contact with Yaakov Litzman.
As being reported there are 6,211 positive coronavirus cases in Israel, with 31 deaths. So far 107 patients are in serious condition, while 83 are on life support. So far, 241 have recovered, with one Israeli death reported in Italy.
