Hygiene means condition or practices, to maintain health and preventing disease, especially through cleanliness. It also means cleanliness or personal hygiene. Hygiene is the most important regime of a human’s life. Poor standards of hygiene mean that the disease spreads fast. It is also consider as the degree to which people keep themselves or their surroundings or environment clean, especially to prevent disease. The last two centuries have seen enormous improvements in health and hygiene generally. Hygiene activities can be grouped into the following activities, home and everyday hygiene, personal hygiene, medical hygiene, sleep hygiene, kitchen hygiene and food hygiene. Many people equate hygiene with ‘cleanliness’, but hygiene is the broad term.
Here I’m talking about personal hygiene. Everyday personal hygiene includes washing your hands, face, keeping yourself clean and tidy, keeping your teeth and your ears clean, preventing bad breathe, body to always smell good. Motivations for personal hygiene practice include reduction of personal illness, healing from personal illness, optimal health and sense of well-being, social acceptance and prevention of spread of illness to others. What is considered proper personal hygiene can be cultural specific and may change over time.
Personal grooming extends personal hygiene as it pertains to the maintenance of a good personal and public appearance, which need not necessarily be hygienic. It may involve for example, using deodorants or perfumes, shaving, combing, besides other practices.
