Monsoon Madness!

The mighty Gujjar Nullah flooded Karachi’s District Central once more, on Friday. Different parts of the city witnessed heavy rainfall, crippling life in the busy metropolis, as usual. The power failure in many areas, due to Thursday’s rainfall, remained neglected, while after Friday’s rainfall, more than 500 K-Electric feeders tripped.

While most of us decided against going out on Friday, due to the forecast, there were either on their way to or back from their offices and got stuck on their way back to home due to the gnarly weather. The Natha Khan Flyover all the way to the airport, Shahrah-e-Faisal was primarily underwater by around 6pm and the machinery deployed by the city authorities seemed to have failed us, abysmally.

A similar situation was observed on Karsaz, although Rashid Minhas road was relatively clear. However, before the Nipa Flyover, the usual knee-deep water was flowing, sewer and rain alike. In Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Jauhar Chowrangi was as usual flooded while residents of many areas of its Block 12 had to put up with a river flowing down their streets.

However, the situation this time around, wasn’t as forlorn as it was during the third spell. One of the residents of FC Area, Umair Malik, said that the situation on Friday was still a step up compared to the previous rainfall before Eid.

“The water that overflowed from the Gujjar Nullah did not bring out filth and garbage with it. On the main roads, there was two-to-three inch water, while in internal areas such as Moosa Colony, few streets had three-to-four foot water,” he said, adding that if it had continued to rain, the area once again could have been waterlogged once again.

The whole point of this article is to perhaps shed some light on the fact that although things are bad, slowly but surely it is moving towards betterment, and we just need to have a little more faith and take a little more initiative. It is our responsibility too.
