Mureed Abbas’ murder investigation reveals trace of money laundering

The ongoing investigation of the murder of anchor Mureed Abbas revealed link to money laundering against suspect Atif Zaman and the deceased.

SSP Tariq Dharejo said that in the money laundering probe, more than 80 people, including media personnel, were found to be involved.

The SSP said that the people had in unison invested Rs1 billion in the business with suspect Atif Zaman.

The deceased anchor had invested Rs70 million with the suspect in partnership.

A day earlier, a new CCTV footage showed suspect Atif Zaman and his associates hurriedly leaving from their residential apartment with weapons in their hand.

Zaman shot himself after allegedly killing his business partners, Mureed Abbas and Khizar Hayat. The police said that the suspect is unconscious but will be taken into custody after recovery. The new CCTV footage also shows a body being taken by a few people including a woman.

Mureed Abbas, a news anchor affiliated with a private news channel, was killed along with his friend Khizar at a cafe on Khyaban-e-Bukhari commercial area.

The deceased’s wife, who is also a tv anchor, claimed that her husband invested Rs5 million in Zaman’s tyre business and was lately asking him to return his funds.
