NEPRA increases electricity prices by Rs1.82 per unit!

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested Nepra to raise prices by Rs.2.97 per unit, afterward hearing CPPA’s arguments Nepra raised up electricity prices by Rs1.82 under the head of monthly fuel price adjustment.

The public hearing on monthly Fuel Price Adjustment was presided over by Chairman Nepra, Tauseef H. Farooqi while Vice Chairman/Member KP, Engineer Bahadar Khan, Member Sindh, Rafique Ahmed Shaikh, and Member Balochistan, Rehmatullah Baloch were also present.

During the hearing, the power purchasing agency said that additional load shedding would need to be done if the power plants were not run on furnace oil.

In the wake of this decision, the electricity consumers will bear an additional burden of Rs24 billion. While the receipts will be made in November bills.

The new electricity prices will not be applicable to the consumers of K-Electric.

Earlier, Nepra had shelved an increase of Rs2.97 per unit in electricity tariff for September 2019 for six days, just a day before Azadi March of JUI (F). Apparently the decision was taken due to the non-availability of accurate data on the economic merit order of power plants.
