Retro has made a big comeback on the indie music scene and Misbah Uddin’s ‘Sitaray’ solidifies the fact.
The song features moody lyrics with lots of synth and glitchy visuals that bring back the pre-digital era. It makes for a great long-drive song.
‘Sitaray’ is written, played and produced by Misbah Uddin and features back up vocals by Surraiyah Masood.
Misbah is a Lahore-based musician, producer and part of the band Keeray Makoray. He started working on solo material in 2018 and his last song, ‘Baadal’, was nominated for the best Indie Music Award at the Shaan-e-Pakistan Music Achievement Awards 2019 held in March.
“The whole project just sort of came about when I had made ‘Baadal’ as an experiment and a friend of mine thought it should be made public,” Misbah told.
“I’m a big fan of Tame Impala and I listen to a lot of synthwave music. A very close friend of mine has a synth pop Urdu band called Janoobi Khargosh and he really influenced me in this direction,” said Misbah, referring to the synthwave/psychedelic pop band formed by Waleed Ahmed.
And yes, there’s more to come in the pipeline, confirms Misbah. “I’m looking for visual artists to collaborate with for my next project.”
