Nishwa case: Accused doctors flee after court cancels bail

Two doctors of Darul Sehat hospital, accused of medical negligence over the death of nine-month-old Nishwa, fled on Friday after a local court cancelled their bail in the case.

Dr Attiya and Dr Sharjeel, who were among the hospital staff arrested for the infant’s death last month, escaped from the court premises after a judicial magistrate cancelled their bail.

Nishwa, was paralysed due to a ‘wrong injection’ given to her by the ‘untrained nursing staff’ of Darul Sehat Hospital, as per the minor’s father. After battling for her life for over a week, the nine-month-old breathed her last on April 22 at Liaquat National Hospital in Karachi.

According to a report by the Sindh Health Care Commission, the infant had been administered with an overdose of potassium chloride at the hospital, leaving her nearly brain-dead.

The father of the girl had lodged First Information Report (FIR) against the hospital administration and had given names of 10 persons including Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan leader and owner of Darul Sehat hospital Amir Waliuddin Chishti and Ali Farhan.
