In the past few years, Pakistan faced great unemployment due to which many people looked forward to the freelancing industry which is tremendously booming now. People today, do not do freelancing for the purpose of improving their skills, instead, it has become a business and people are actually coming towards it to earn their livelihoods.
The Oxford Internet Institute (OII) recently published a report named ‘Online Labour Index’ according to which Pakistan is ranked fourth in the category of Software development and technology. India leads the chart, Bangladesh stands second and the US comes on the third number. Here’s a chart showing the progress of various countries in freelancing.
This data was collected from four biggest freelancing platforms that are Fiverr, People per Hour, Guru and Freelancer.
One of the reasons behind this progress in Pakistan is the enhanced internet access to more than 2000 cities. People have facilities now, so they are working at a faster pace. Besides this, the Government is also making efforts in promoting freelancing due to which more and more people are becoming a part of this workforce.
Also, there are so many universities in Pakistan that are offering degree programs in Software Engineering and Computer Science; preparing more fresh graduates to perform better in the market.
