Pakistan win gold in karate, taekwondo, shooting

KARACHI: Pakistan on Tuesday extended their gold medal tally to six in the 13th South Asian Games being held in Nepal.

By the time this report was written, Pakistan had also won 11 silver and 15 bronze medals. The country’s premier karateka Saadi Abbas and taekwondo fighter Shahzeb won titles, while two gold medals were achieved in shooting.

According to the latest results, Saadi Ghulam Abbas won the gold medal in the men’s 75kg karate event.

The shooters trio of Ghufran Adil (1152 pts), Aqib Latif (1135 pts) and Zeeshan Shakir (1134 pts) excelled in the rifle event and were on song with some great marksmanship.

Khalil Akhter got a bronze in singles buck up event. Meanwhile, Pakistan suffered a 3-1 defeat against India in the men’s volleyball final.

Earlier, Pakistani karatekas Shahida Abbasi and Mohammad Awais had clinched gold medals in the 42kg women’s and 84kg men’s categories respectively on Monday.
