LAHORE: The ruling Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to challenge Maryam Nawaz’s appointment as vice president Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the court, on Monday.
While talking to media representatives, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the daughter of Nawaz Sharif is convicted from the court, how she can hold a party position.
According to local news channel reports, Qureshi said the political heir of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was given a temporary relief as her jail term was suspended by the court, but her conviction remains intact.
Qureshi said consultation was underway with the lawyers in this regard, and the party is also mulling over to contact the Election Commission of Pakitan (ECP) in this matter.
Earlier, Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan had also termed Maryam’s appointment as ridiculing the law.
Last week, PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif in a statement had announced to nominate former prime minister and PML-N stalwart Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as Senior Vice President of the party.
While Maryam Nawaz, party supremo Nawaz Sharif’s political heir was appointed as vice president. Another party veteran Ahsan Iqbal was named as central secretary general of the PML-N.
