Over the years, Pakistani authors gave us some remarkable books with so much to think about. They told us about life in a way which we have never knew about. From history to people trying to live their life on their own terms. From experiencing tragedies of life to discovering themselves. These books have excelled in their stories.

Home Fire – Kamila Shamsie 

This book is about an immigrant family, an older sister Isma, and her younger twin siblings. She looks out for them as their mother died and their father abandoned them. The lives of two families entwine as the tensions emerge. A heartbreaking story about sacrifices and love. 

The Reluctant Fundamentalist – Mohsin Hamid

A story set on an evening in lahore tell us about a bearded Pakistani man, Changez who talks to an American stranger while they are sitting in a cafe and tells him about his life in America. How his life changed as September 11 came. Mohsin Hamid told us how devotion rules all whether it’s money, power or love. 

The Prisoner – Omar Shahid

This book tells us about karachi and what harm its streets can do. An American journalist was kidnapped from the city’s elite neighborhood. Now the clock is ticking and intelligence agencies and police are trying to find him alive. A thrilling story takes us into the world of corrupt police officers and a city where everyone is not what they appear to be. 

My Feudal Lord – Tehmina Durrani

This book tells us about the life of Tehmina Durrani herself and how she decided to be a rebel in a society. She was born in one of Pakistan’s most influential families in lahore and how it was expected of her to be a women who must marry a respectable muslim man like all the women of her rank. Therefore, it is a great book about living on your own terms. My feudal lord moved the society when it was published. 

The Golden legend – Nadeem Aslam

This story is about a women Nargis who is living with a secret which she had buried down a long time ago. However, now someone is spilling everyone’s secret in a minaret of the mosque. Her life turns into chaos as tensions begin to rise. The circumstances gives a warning to tear Muslim and Christian communities apart.
