Tony Robbins, one of America’s leading authors and life coach once said, the only limit to your impact is your own imagination and commitment. We saw a personification of this quote when we came across a Syrian artist who was born without arms.
Doaa al-Bustati is a 28-year-old with a passion for painting. Due to a rare birth defect, she came into this world with no arms. Yet she hasn’t let her disability get in the way of creating a beautiful story for the world to witness.
This brave youngster has made sure that she lives her life to the fullest. She has learnt to perform everyday tasks like making coffee, using a knife and even threading a needle, all with the help of her feet.
Sitting in her living room, talking to Al Jazeera, Doaa says: “I liked drawing. I liked the idea of expressing what’s inside me through a painting.” She says she was six years old when her sister began to bring her drawings to color. “She wanted to develop my talents” Doaa expresses.
The talent young artist has vowed the world with her skills. She has already held exhibitions in Damascus, Aleppo and will soon hold another in Tartous.
“I don’t need artificial limbs” she tells her sister. “Even if I were to wake up with arms one day, I would cut them off” she jokes.
