Legendary fast bowler Waqar Younis has applied for the vacant position of Pakistan’s bowling coach, according to latest news. The position had become vacant after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided against renewing the contract of Azahar Mahmood among others.
One of the fearsome fast bowler of his time Waqar Younis has previously served as Pakistan’s bowling coach between March 2006 to Jan 2007, and also had couple of stints as head coach of Pakistan between 2014 & 2016. During Waqar Younis role as bowling coach we have seen great improvement in bowlers like Rana Naveed-ul-Hassan and Umar Gul performances in the past.
According to the sources, Younis has surprisingly applied for the vacant post and has become the most high profile candidate for the job.
The former fast bowler had served as Pakistan team’s bowling coach for two times in the past. He also remained Pakistan team’s head coach from 2014 to 2016 during which the green shirts participated in World Cup 2015 and T20 World Cup 2016.
Hailed from Punjab, Waqar had played 87 Tests, 262 ODIs for Pakistan from 1989 to 2003. He also captained Pakistan team in World Cup 2003.
