Wasim Akram confident of finding more talent for Pakistan from PSL

The three previous editions of Pakistan Super League (PSL) have given Pakistan Cricket some talented cricketers and with the fourth edition starting today, everyone has set their sights on emerging talent of this year.

However, Wasim Akram has already spotted one player whom he considers would emerge from this league, however, he was reluctant to name him.

“PSL has helped Pakistan cricket grow, it has given us names like Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali, Faheem Ashraf, we even saw Sharjeel in the start of the league. Ruman Raees also came into limelight through this league,” Wasim said about how PSL has helped Pakistan.

“I am sure about one guy whom I won’t name but he will soon make his name from PSL,” he added.

The former captain added that the fourth edition of PSL is going to be bigger than before.

“Not only me, but the entire Pakistan is also looking forward to the event and eager to know about who is emerging as new talent through this edition of PSL. This is a exciting time for Pakistan and Pakistan Cricket,” he said.

Talking about teams in the tournament, the legendary fast bowler and president of PSL team Karachi Kings termed Lahore Qalandars as the strong team on paper, but added that all the teams are balanced and he can not name one team as the favourite.

“Lahore looks strong on paper but you can’t name one team is favourite because the game can be changed in one over, even sometimes in just two deliveries. So every team will fight for the glory,” he said.

“Karachi Kings have a good side. We don’t have big names but we actually have people who are hungry. So, that’s very important. Big names are although impact players but sometimes they get relaxed and you can’t enforce much on them but in our squad, all the players are eager to do well and make a mark,” the president of Karachi Kings added.

Wasim said that he is trying to tell youngsters on how to own the game and how to be on the field in various situations.

“My job is to work behind the scenes, talking to bowlers mindset, to make them know the mind games, how to read the batsman and the situation. Also important is to know your field placement, it’s equally a bowler’s job along with captain to have a look at where the fielders are standing,” the former Pakistan captain said.

He also shared his excitement on the news that this time eight matches are going to be held in Pakistan.

“Exciting times that eight matches are being played in Pakistan. I’m sure all the matches will be houseful. I want to tell people that it’s their league and they all must support the league,” he said.

“Final is far away, we are thinking step by step. The first step is to qualify for the play offs and then to win them and qualify for the final,” he responded when asked about how he’s looking forward to the final which is scheduled to be played in Karachi on 17th of March.
