WEF declared Pakistan as “Champion of Nature”

Recently, Pakistan has been declared as “Champion of Nature” by World Economic Forum which is a huge win for us as a third world country. The title has been awarded to Pakistan for making environmentally friendly decisions amidst the coronavirus pandemic. This declaration has helped us to be a part of the ‘community of leaders disrupting business-as-usual to lead the way to nature positive global economy and halt nature loss by 2030’.

The official letter of recognition shared by the minister stated “Your country’s holistic approach to fighting climate change, natural degradation and loss of livelihoods holds lessons for us all. Your strong commitment to the nature agenda and to the key role of reforestation — which we are supporting with the forum’s trillion tree platform — will be invaluable for the success of the Champions for Nature Community,” the letter said

This August, the prime minister’s Tiger Force volunteers planted trees as a part of the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami initiative. Adding on the government has also introduced the Green Stimulus project to promote plantation. This includes setting up nurseries and natural forests, honey, fruit and olive plantations in the country. This has helped create jobs and restore the natural ecosystem in the process.
