WhatsApp Pay is one of the most anticipated features of the popular global application WhatsApp.
So that users can make smooth cash-less transactions, the feature is expected to work like an e-wallet and is expected to be launched soon starting from India.
Cathcart reportedly said:
“WE BELIEVE THAT IF WE GET THIS RIGHT, IT WILL ACCELERATE FINANCIAL INCLUSION AND BRING VALUE FOR PEOPLE IN INDIA’S FAST-GROWING DIGITAL ECONOMY. WE CAN’T WAIT TO PROVIDE THE SERVICE TO MORE OF OUR USERS ALL ACROSS INDIA LATER THIS YEAR.”
Out of the 1.5bn user database, about 400mn users are based in India, making it the ideal location to test and launch the feature.
Previously, Facebook had announced its new crypto currency called ‘Libra’. The aim of this currency is to purchase products, send money to recipients around the globe, give donations, etc. There is a fair chance that WhatsApp Pay will be one of the channels that will allow Libra transactions.
This is a developing story.
