On Monday it was reported that China was contributing valuable assistance to Pakistan in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic, said by the Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
He spoke to the (SCO) Secretary-General Vladimir Norov over the telephone, saying that the neighbouring country has led the way in effective containment of the virus in Pakistan, adding that a lot could be gained from the Chinese experience, according to Foreign Office statement.
Further, the foreign minister also appreciated the SCO Secretariat’s role in propagating up-to-date information on China’s effective response to the pandemic.
Both leaders exchanged views on adopting an effective strategy to contain the COVID-19 pandemic and facing the challenges posed by it.
SCO was briefed by FM Qureshi about hoe the government is taking measures regarding the contagious disease.
He said Pakistan attaches high importance to the SCO as its member states comprised more than 40% of the world population and accounted for a quarter of global GDP.
Other than that, Pakistan had started a conference video call of SAARC health ministers, FM Qureshi informed the SCO chief that in order to strengthen regional cooperation in South Asia in the wake of the pandemic.
The SCO chief conveyed his best wishes to the government and people of Pakistan in successfully facing the challenge posed by the pandemic and reiterated his resolve to utilise all possible means to ensure effective use of SCO in coordinating efforts of member states to combat the pandemic.
