What is Respect ? It is basically a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities or achievements. Respect, also called esteem, is a positive feeling or action shown towards someone or something considered important or held in high esteem or regard. Receiving respect from others is important because it helps us to feel safe and to express ourselves. Respect means that you accept somebody for who you or you don’t agree with them.
How do you know if there’s respect in your relationship or not ? If the opposite person you are with makes you feel safe around themselves. Or if you both can comfortably express yourself in-front of each other without hesitation. Or when you are patient with each other, that’s when you know that there is respect.
Showing respect to someone is a sign of ethical behaviour. Everyone must always respect fellow human beings. This is an essential requirement of living in a society. We all owe a basic level of respect to others. Appropriate respect must be shown to people who impact our lives specially. Which includes our parents, relatives, teachers, friends, fellow workers, authority figured and many more. One of the best ways of showing respect to others is listening. Listening to another person’s point of view is an excellent way of respect. Most net worthy, we must allow a person to express his views even if we disagree with them. Being respectful towards others is one part of the puzzle. It’s also important to have respect for yourself.
Ending a relationship that isn’t respectful is a way of respecting yourself. There is a saying that, “Respect is the glue that holds your relationships together. Learn ways to be respectful and know what to do when somebody isn’t respectful towards you”.
