Warner Bros.’ blockbuster film Aquaman is getting a sequel, the news gets confirmed as the filmmakers announce Aquaman 2 ‘s official release date to be December 16, 2022.
Aquaman which was released last year in December had a stunning box office run that generated 1.14 billion dollars, making it to the biggest DC Comics superhero film of all time.
Earlier this month the news source reported that Aquaman screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick had been hired to pen the sequel.
It is not a surprise that Aquaman 2 will be hitting theaters during the Christmas holiday, just like its first film.
The superhero film stars Jason Momoa as the title character, with Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman in supporting roles.
Aquaman sequel will be produced by “Aquaman” director James Wan and Peter Safran, with much higher stakes.
The first installment earned $330 million in North America and 805 million dollars internationally, led by nearly 300 million dollars in China, becoming the 20th highest worldwide grosser of all time.
