Drug abuse

Highly addictive and popular drug metham phetamine also widely known as ice has become a latest trend among the youth in Pakistan. The problem lies in consuming it, families knowing it & keeping it a secret rather than seeking help or sending their children to rehabilitation centres. Ice has become increasingly popular and the consumption rate is rising by the day. Normally, upper middle and upper class students are consuming it more and more.

The alarming situation is not meth abuse but the growing numbers of it. What’s more terrifying is the fact that our educated lot is consuming this deadly drug. Now meth can either be injected, smoked or taken orally. A few also snort it. Talk about the effects which are common like other drugs such as a loss of appetite, feeling euphoric etc. People who consume it tend to become more aggressive, violent. They are easily frustrated and irritated. One of the biggest factor which leads to its consumption and increased production is peer pressure which has sadly and unfortunately helped spread this drug like covid-19.

Not only is this drug expensive but highly deadly. The dealers have sources and are often well connected. They have their own ways of getting clients and involving youth in it. The punishment of selling ice is prison for only two years and a hefty fine so, how can we expect a person to immediately stop selling or look the other way? Anti-narcotics should have a more stringent approach & a stricter punishment.

The precise number of people consuming this drug is still unknown as our society members are quiet professional at keeping things concealed. They’d rather risk a lost life than help. Both men & women are involved in it.

This can only be sorted and prevented once we start identifying and handing the criminals over to the law officials. Once we start speaking about it, ratting the one’s using it and most of all seeking professional help!
