There are not one but many educational problems that require immediate assistance and attention of Prime Minister. When Shehbaz Sharif was chief minister in Punjab the education sector transformed majorly & the quality of education improved drastically as well.
There were changes in the way teachers were recruited, an increment was observed in the salaries as well, more emphasis was placed on monitoring attendance of the students and teacher’s.
Of course, while Shehbaz Sharif was the Chief Minister he gave more attention to education sector but now that he is the Prime Minister, we can’t expect the same level of focus and attention. Yet, there is still hope that he can bring out the same level of energy at federal level as well.
The first step should be dissolving the idea of single curriculum which doesn’t make sense for a child population that is so diverse in Pakistan. The second step should be addressing the issue of out-of-school children. We need the same kind of energy that Shehbaz Sharif showed in Punjab in order to push education agenda to the top. If a commitment is made to tackle the issues then definitely we will witness changes.
