“Islamabad Airport could collapse any day,” claims CJP Gulzar

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed has remarked that the way New Islamabad International Airport has been built, it will collapse any day.

He made these remarks while hearing a case related to the authorities’ misbehavior with passengers at the airports.

Heading a three-member bench, Justice Gulzar lamented that the airports across the country have become the site of all criminal deals in the world.

During the course of hearing at Karachi Registry, Justice Gulzar expressed his displeasure seeing the Additional Director appearing in place of DG Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

He made an enquiry of the Additional Director about the facilities provided to passengers at airports. His response failed to satisfy the court.

Why have you even come to the court when you don’t have the answers?
The court remarked that the higher management is doing nothing. “Is your only job to withdraw massive salary at home?”

CJP Gulzar observed that the country’s airports had become dangerous places where drugs and foreign currency smuggling deals are being finalized.

Bashing the authorities over mismanagement, the Chief Justice said that the passengers of delayed flights spent the night on the floor of the airport, and no official was present there.

Is this how civil aviation authority treats passengers at the airport?
The court directed DG Civil Aviation to appear in person in the next hearing.

The court also sought a one-year report of flight delays, compensation payments to passengers, detailed report on airport security, repairs, and of various accidents and legal proceedings within two weeks.
